Squidoo is the brain child of Seth Godin, an exceptional marketing consultant. The person building the lens, the “lensmaster”, gets recognition as an expert in his or her area of expertise.

I spent the better part of my life working for ATC/TimeWarner, starting in 1981, constructing and activating fiber and coaxial plant. Over time I gained the knowledge that was required to do the J.O.B efficiently, cost effective and usually ahead of schedule. I was passionate about it, I lost sleep, I sacrificed family by being away- all for the pride of accomplishment of building the networks that would be used in the future (today).

In `97 I started out on my own business providing technical services in the fiber optic networks that were being constructed around the country. I hired people, trained them with the knowledge that I had acquired over the years and we all succeeded. There is some pretty good bucks in fiber optics.

Many of my friends and clients ask me what exactly is a web 2.0 application and what types of them exist. I tell them these applications can have different degrees of being web 2.0 based on the following:

Level 3 applications

Level 3 applications can only be used with an Internet connection, and they are nothing without the human-driven network. These applications require human participation to improve in content and quality. Level 3 applications include the ever-present eBay, which would of course be useless without people offering goods and other people to bid on those goods; Craigslist for much the same reason as eBay; Wikipedia, since readers are responsible for editing content if they know it to be incorrect or outdated.

There are many people trying to make a living online today armed with spotty knowledge of what it takes to actually succeed online. Only a few people actually succeed in a brick and mortar business and even less people succeed with an online business.

Making it on you own is tough and nothing like a J.O.B. It takes Devoting The Time To Learn And Implement Knowledge.

A few years back I decided to phase into Internet marketing but I, as so many other, fell under the spell of the potential earnings being claimed by others that I simply lost focus of my original goal. I armed myself with tons of knowledge, built websites and went to it and needless to say it hasn’t worked as well as I had hoped.

It is time for a follow up to the web site traffic that has been generated to this blog since I installed the Stumbleupon tool bar and joined the community. I became a member of the service back on March 18th of this year and since that time many visitors have come and some are returning time and time again.

Now to the results of my efforts to increase web site traffic. To date the traffic that has been generated using the service looks like this:

Total referrers since March has been 4185 visitors - 346 visitors coming from my profile page. Now I know that is not a huge number in terms of traffic that one’s site could get from the Internet but it is targeted traffic which has resulted in repeat visitors and cost me little time in accomplishing. I have also gained a few friends and admires which is great in itself.

Before you start communicating on social networking sites , you need to develop your online profile or profile page that reflects you or your business, depending on the networking site that you are using. Although it may seem easy enough to create a profile, there are many people who are unsure exactly what they should and should not include in their profile.

Promoting yourself or a business will dictate the information that you want to reveal. If you are marketing yourself perhaps one of the most important things to include in your profile is your picture. While a personal picture is optional, it is ideal. Many Internet users enjoy talking to someone that they can see in their minds and many times without a picture this is difficult. If you are looking to use social networking websites to promote a business it may not necessary to post a picture but rather a company logo.
