Why I Use Social Bookmarking

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007

I’m going to back up a bit here today and cover social bookmarking again. During the last week I received an email from one of my team members from the thirty day challenge chastising me for leaving the team. In fact he was down rite insulting. It appears that the only thing that the other team members and myself are good for is to help him pawn his wares. He must have assumed that I would bookmark his content regardless of whether the content was good or not. Well this person has missed the boat completely. This is NOT what social bookmarking is all about and it appeared to me that he just wants to game the system. In my opinion if you game you loose.

How does the Internet work with marketing anyways? I’m sure that if you asked this question to fifty people you would get fifty different answers.

There are thousands of people giving your their opinions on how to make the net work for you and to tell you the truth ninety percent of these suggestions are pure garbage. Now a days people are so impatient. It appears that most think that if you put up a few post with an affiliate link that they will instantly become rich. There is so much junk on the net it is truly hard to get passed all the noise to the source of the truth that you seek.

Well it’s official. The Thirty Day Challenge has kicked off and Ed has started with four basic components of Internet marketing.

Today’s tasks included watching a video, listening to a podcast, getting caught up on the any pre-season content that we may have missed and brainstorming niche ideas.

Market research - believe it or not, this is where most people fail. Many newbies coming online and many seasoned marketers simply do not do their research. They fall in love with a product or service and think that just because they like it that it will be a hit.

Community Based Classifieds

I ran across a web site that is very similar to Craigslist. The name of the site is called Kijiji. The word “kijiji” (pronounced like key-gee-gee) means “village” in Swahili. Basically Kijiji allows people in the same city to meet, trade, share ideas, and help each other out in areas such as goods, cars, services, housing, jobs, and personals.

Kijiji, like Craigslist, allows users to find or post listings based on location. So you’ll find listing sections for all the major cities in the USA.

The excitement builds during the preseason for Ed Dale’s 30 Day challenge.

If you have never heard of the 30 Day Challenge, I will give you a brief history. It is a totally free - zero hype - internet course teaching people everything he knows about Internet Marketing. The goal of the first Thirty Day Challenge - make one dollar with your own product. The idea was to get people into teams and support each other through thirty days.

So in July of 2005, 927 hardy souls started out on the Thirty Day Challenge, and at the end of thirty days - 27 people had made there first dollar (a further 112 made it in the 60 days after it). Some of those thirty day challenge newbies have gone on to be some of the best Internet marketers on the planet!

Is Squidoo Polluting the Web?

The buzz around the blogoshpere about Squidoo as a spam venue is heating up this week.

I fired up my Twitter comments and ran across Ed Dale’s post on the apparent Squidoo slap. It appears that many lenses that have enjoyed great SERP’s may be coming to an end. Ed and his team suggest 3 potential causes of the sudden drop citing “the penalty cause because websites now ranking above previously high ranking Squidoo lenses have much fewer backlinks and lower page rank than the Squidoo lenses they have replaced”.

Tag - Your It

In my endeavors across the net to find great social site that you can use to promote yourself I see many users that do not use tags properly. Normally I see only a handful of tags that a user has placed to describe the content the he or she is trying to get noticed.

For those of you who don’t know what tags are, basically they are keywords and phrases that best describe the content you are publishing. Tags are a way of teaching the web how to categories your information and if used correctly will accurately help in describing your website content.
